Hidden among the picturesque hills and mountains of the Börzsöny Mountains, this small community still has a rich and varied tradition of the Palóc region, although the typical, tasty Palóc dialect and colourful costumes have not been preserved in the village. With a history of more than 700 years, the village was traditionally founded by the Salgó family, who built the Salgó Castle in the depths of the forest on the peak of Várbükk. Today, only the remains of the castle are visible on the top of the mountain, but its rocky summit offers a beautiful view of the Börzsöny. Its landscape house, where the artefacts were acquired after decades of research, has also been awarded a Unesco prize. As well as providing a vivid illustration of the daily life of the ancestors, the building also serves as a living community space for events, residents and visitors to the village.
